Pourquoi composter?
Les déchets alimentaires représentent environ un quart du poids total de ta poubelle. Ce qui est énorme !
En récupérant certains déchets de cuisine et en les mélangeant aux déchets de jardin, on peut fabriquer un compost qui servira d’engrais pour le jardin, réduisant ainsi le poids de sa poubelle et évitant que ces déchets soient incinérés !
Les déchets de cuisine et les déchets de jardin sont composés de matière organique biodégradable. Dans la nature, la matière organique, d’origine végétale ou animale, se dégrade naturellement pour permettre aux plantes de grandir.
Dans le composteur ou dans le centre de compostage, c’est le même principe que dans la nature. Les déchets se décomposent, en présence de l’oxygène et de l’eau, grâce à des micro-organismes (bactéries, champignons…) et des organismes de plus grande taille (lombrics, acariens, cloportes et autres insectes) pour se transformer en compost.
Les déchets de cuisine : épluchures, légumes et fruits abîmés (crus ou cuits), coquilles d’œuf ou d’huître broyées en poudre, thé, marc de café. Et en petite quantité : restes de repas d’origine végétale (pâtes, riz, purée…) sans sauce, pain sec bien émietté et les déchets de jardin : mauvaises herbes sans graines, petites branches, brindilles, paille, feuilles mortes, fleurs et plantes fanées, litières de rongeurs herbivores (lapin, hamster). Et en petite quantité : tontes de gazon, tailles de haie additionnés à d’autres déchets : sachets de thé, filtres à café, serviettes en papier, essuie-tout doivent être coupés en petits morceaux ou broyés car plus ils sont petits, plus ils se décomposent vite puis déposes ensuite dans un bio-seau, enfin on installe le bio-seau dans un coin du jardin ombragé.
Attention : il faut qu’ ;il y ait 50% de déchets humides (fruits et légumes abîmés, épluchures, thé, café, tontes de gazon…) pour fournir de l’eau et de la nourriture aux micro-organismes et 50 % de déchets secs (carton, feuilles mortes, paille, branchettes et brindilles, serviettes en papier …) pour aérer le compost.
On mélange ensuite régulièrement les déchets pour faire circuler l’air, sinon les micro-organismes seront asphyxiés. On surveille ensuite le degré d’humidité car si le mélange est trop humide, il pourrit et sent mauvais et s’il est trop sec, il ne se décompose pas.
Quelques mois après, les déchets seront transformés en compost.
Après c’est simple! On récupère le compost pour nourrir le sol du jardin ou les des pots de fleurs…
