Marrakech, le 7 décembre 2019. Le Festival International du Film de Marrakech a clôturé la seconde édition des Ateliers de l’Atlas, son programme industrie dédié aux cinémas d’Afrique et du Moyen-Orient, initié en 2018 en partenariat avec Netflix.
Durant 4 jours (3-6 décembre), les Ateliers de l’Atlas ont réuni 270 professionnels internationaux autour d’une sélection de 28 projets portés par une nouvelle génération de cinéastes marocains, arabes et africains. Les participants ont pu assister à une série de tables-rondes, inaugurée par la réalisatrice franco-sénégalaise Mati Diop. Ces discussions ont notamment apporté un éclairage plus particulier à l’écriture du cinéma de genre dans le monde arabe mais aussi sur le continent africain.
Nouvelle initiative des Ateliers, le Atlas Films Showcase a permis de dévoiler les premières images des nouveaux films des cinéastes Hakim Belabbes, Ali Essafi et Dieudo Hamadi à l’attention de trente directeurs et programmateurs de festivals (Cannes, Venise, Toronto, Locarno, Sundance, Karlovy Vary, El Gouna, IDFA, Nyon, Le Caire…). En parallèle, six projets marocains ont participé au nouveau programme de mentoring Regards sur l’Atlas.
Enfin, les dix projets en développement et six films en post-production sélectionnés aux Ateliers de l’Atlas ont bénéficié de consultations par dix neuf professionnels internationaux, avant d’être présentés dans le cadre d’un marché de coproduction qui a généré plus de 350 rendez-vous individuels.
Pour sa seconde édition, les Ateliers de l’Atlas ont distribué des prix d’une dotation globale de 640 000 Dirhams (60 000 €). Le jury des prix Atlas au développement, composé de Laïla Marrakchi (réalisatrice, Maroc), Georges Schoucair (producteur, Liban) et Juliette Schrameck (MK2, France) a récompensé les projets SWEET ANNOYANCE de Hiwot Admasu Getaneh (Ethiopie), LE MENSONGE ORIGINEL de Asmae El Moudir (Maroc), IKIMANUKA – SEASONS OF THE WEARY KIND de Samuel Ishimwe (Rwanda).
Décerné pour la première fois dans la cadre des Ateliers, le Prix ARTEKINO de la chaîne franco-allemande Arte a été remis au projet LES MEUTES de Kamal Lazraq (Maroc).
Le jury des Prix Atlas à la postproduction composé de Chiraz Latiri (ex-directrice du CNCI, Tunisie), Claire Willats (acquisition et production, Netflix) et Oumar Sall (producteur, Sénégal) a récompensé les films THE GRAVEDIGGER by Khadar Ahmed (Djibouti) et ZANKA CONTACT by Ismaël el Iraki (Maroc).
Enfin, le réseau NAAS (Network of Alternative Arab Screens) réunissant 16 salles de cinéma dans les pays de langue arabe a tenu son assemblée générale pendant les Ateliers et a décerné le Prix NAAS à la circulation au film ZANKA CONTACT by Ismaël el Iraki.
En deux édition, les Ateliers de l’Atlas se sont imposés comme un rendez-vous incontournable pour les professionnels de l’industrie cinématographique mondiale et un laboratoire de découverte des nouveaux talents des cinémas du monde arabe et du continent africain.
