Notre-Dame de Paris, un rêve adolescent.
Depuis ma lecture de Notre-Dame de Paris, alors que j’avais seize ans, je rêvais de la visiter. De la toucher du regard. D’en respirer l’histoire. Elle trônait là, au cœur de la ville, silencieuse et fière depuis plus de huit cents ans. Mais ce rêve s’est consumé dans les flammes.
L’incendie de Notre-Dame de Paris : un soir d’avril.
Le 15 avril 2019, à 18 h 50, le ciel de Paris s’est teinté de rouge. Un feu naît dans les combles, là où la flèche, celle de Viollet-le-Duc, s’élève à 93 mètres. Les charpentes de chêne, les plus anciennes de la capitale, brûlent avec lenteur et violence.
À 18 h 43, l’alerte est lancée. Les pompiers arrivent vite, mais les flammes, elles, plus rapides encore. La grande flèche s’effondre. Le feu lèche les pierres. Il menace les tours, les voûtes, les vitraux.
Les héros de Notre-Dame de Paris.
Quatre cents pompiers. Quatre cents cœurs battants. Ils affrontent l’impossible, sauvent ce qui peut l’être : les tours, le beffroi nord, l’orgue, les rosaces anciennes. Le rêve de millions d’âmes tient encore debout. Un sapeur est grièvement brûlé.
D’autres suffoquent. Mais tous ont résisté.
Les pertes et les miracles.
La flèche est tombée. Deux tiers de la toiture ont disparu. La charpente, vieille de huit siècles, est partie en fumée. Certaines voûtes se sont effondrées. Mais…
Les vitraux des XIIe et XIIIe siècles sont restés intacts. Les grandes roses du transept, indemnes. L’orgue monumental de Cavaillé-Coll, préservé.
La Vierge à l’Enfant, seulement mouillée.
Et, par miracle ou prévoyance, les douze apôtres et les quatre évangélistes en cuivre
avaient été retirés quelques jours plus tôt.
Les reliques de la cathédrale : entre perte et salut.
La Sainte Couronne a été sauvée. La tunique de Saint Louis aussi. Mais les reliques de la flèche – abritées dans un coq de cuivre – ont disparu : un fragment de la Couronne d’épines, une relique de Saint Denis, et une autre de Sainte Geneviève.
Notre-Dame de Paris : plus qu’un édifice, une âme.
Ce n’était pas qu’un bâtiment. C’était une mémoire. Un souffle. Des orgues qui chantent l’éternité. Un vitrail qui raconte le ciel.
Aujourd’hui, elle renaît. Lente reconstruction. Espoir dans la pierre. Grâce à ces femmes et ces hommes,
mon rêve n’est pas mort. Il a été sauvé du feu, comme une prière restée accrochée à une gargouille.
