Clôture des Ateliers de l’Atlas à Marrakech
Marrakech, le 7 décembre 2019. La 18e édition du Festival International du Film de Marrakech a clôturé la seconde édition des Ateliers de l’Atlas, son programme industrie dédié aux cinémas d’Afrique et du Moyen-Orient. Ce programme a été lancé en 2018, en partenariat avec Netflix.
Une plateforme pour les talents émergents.
Pendant 4 jours (du 3 au 6 décembre), les Ateliers ont réuni 270 professionnels internationaux. Ils ont découvert 28 projets portés par une nouvelle génération de cinéastes marocains, arabes et africains.
Les participants ont assisté à plusieurs tables rondes. La première a été inaugurée par la réalisatrice franco-sénégalaise Mati Diop. Les échanges ont mis en lumière l’écriture du cinéma de genre, dans le monde arabe et en Afrique.
Premières images au Atlas Films Showcase.
Nouvelle initiative de cette édition : le Atlas Films Showcase. Il a permis de dévoiler les premières images des films de Hakim Belabbes, Ali Essafi et Dieudo Hamadi. Trente programmateurs de festivals prestigieux y ont assisté (Cannes, Venise, Toronto, Locarno, etc.). En parallèle, six projets marocains ont été accompagnés dans le cadre du programme de mentoring Regards sur l’Atlas.
Un marché de coproduction dynamique.
Dix projets en développement et six films en post-production ont été accompagnés. Dix-neuf professionnels internationaux ont offert leurs conseils. Plus de 350 rendez-vous individuels ont eu lieu dans le cadre d’un marché de coproduction.
La 18e édition du Festival International; dotation et jury.
Pour cette seconde édition, les Ateliers de l’Atlas ont attribué 640 000 Dirhams (60 000 €) en prix. Le jury des Prix Atlas au développement, composé de Laïla Marrakchi (Maroc), Georges Schoucair (Liban) et Juliette Schrameck (France), a récompensé trois projets :

Produit par Mehret Mandefro – 110 000 Dirhams (10 000 €) - LE MENSONGE ORIGINEL de Asmae El Moudir (Maroc)
Produit par Insight Films (Maroc) et Hutong Prod (France) – 55 000 Dirhams (5 000 €) - IKIMANUKA – SEASONS OF THE WEARY KIND de Samuel Ishimwe (Rwanda)
Produit par Imitana Productions (Rwanda) et Petit Chaos (France) – 55 000 Dirhams (5 000 €)
Prix ARTEKINO et postproduction.
Le Prix ARTEKINO INTERNATIONAL, doté de 6 000 €, a été remis au projet :
- LES MEUTES de Kamal Lazraq (Maroc)
Produit par Barney Production (France) et Mont Fleuri Production (Maroc)
Le jury des Prix Atlas à la postproduction, composé de Chiraz Latiri (Tunisie), Claire Willats (Netflix) et Oumar Sall (Sénégal), a récompensé :
- THE GRAVEDIGGER de Khadar Ahmed (Djibouti)
Produit par Bufo Ab (Finlande) et Twenty Twenty Vision Filmproduktion (Allemagne) – 220 000 Dirhams (20 000 €) - ZANKA CONTACT de Ismaël el Iraki (Maroc)

Récompense NAAS et conclusion à La 18e édition du Festival International.
Le réseau NAAS (Network of Alternative Arab Screens), qui réunit 16 salles de cinéma dans les pays arabophones, a tenu son assemblée générale pendant les Ateliers. Il a décerné le Prix NAAS à la circulation au film :
- THE GRAVEDIGGER de Khadar Ahmed (Djibouti)
Produit par Bufo Ab (Finlande) et Twenty Twenty Vision Filmproduktion (Allemagne)
Ce prix, doté de 3 000 $, permettra au réalisateur de présenter son film dans plusieurs pays arabophones.

En seulement deux éditions, les Ateliers de l’Atlas se sont imposés comme un événement majeur de l’industrie cinématographique mondiale. Ce programme est devenu un laboratoire de talents, révélant les nouvelles voix des cinémas arabes et africains.
