Isaac Albéniz, le Chopin espagnol.
Né en 1860, mort en 1909 en France, Isaac Albéniz est parfois surnommé le Chopin espagnol.
Parmi ses œuvres les plus connues : Asturias, une pièce marquante, d’abord écrite pour piano en sol mineur. Elle fut ensuite adaptée pour guitare, où elle connut un grand succès.
Asturias dans la Suite espagnole.
Cette pièce fait partie de la Suite espagnole, op. 47, qui comprend : Granada, Cataluña, Sevilla, Cuba, Cádiz, Aragón, Castilla.
Chacune des quatre premières pièces évoque un style musical régional espagnol, sauf Asturias qui s’en éloigne.
La Suite espagnole fut composée en l’honneur de Marie Christine d’Autriche, reine d’Espagne.
Qu’est-ce qu’une Suite musicale ?
Une Suite musicale est une œuvre instrumentale audacieuse, composée de plusieurs mouvements, souvent dans la même tonalité.
Elle regroupe des danses anciennes, ancêtres de la sonate, et trouve ses origines au XVIe siècle.
En Italie, on l’appelait Sonata da ballo, c’est-à-dire Sonate de danse.
Asturias, une œuvre aux contrastes évocateurs.
Asturias s’ouvre sur un rythme vif, imitant les chants et danses populaires.
Elle enchaîne des passages intenses, entrecoupés d’haltes sensibles et de tonalités plus lentes.
Ces instants calmes révèlent une sensibilité profonde, puis l’œuvre reprend avec vivacité.
Des résonances orientales.
Comme souvent chez Albéniz, on sent une affinité avec les chants arabes, surtout dans les pièces adaptées à la guitare.
L’harmonie exotique de cet instrument rappelle les traditions et caractères des populations orientales.
Albéniz, d’origine juive, a été marqué par les mélodies orientales des Juifs sépharades.
Ces influences sont ancrées depuis des siècles dans le folklore espagnol, transmis par son père mélomane.
Flamenco et influences byzantines
Le flamenco, autre source d’inspiration, porte lui aussi une touche orientale ancienne.
Cette touche provient de la liturgie byzantine, influencée par des traditions judaïques antérieures. Ce riche mélange culturel donna à Albéniz l’exotisme recherché par sa génération. Il souhaitait, à travers sa musique, retrouver un souffle perdu dans l’Europe vieillissante.
